Advantages of Installing a Snorkel
- The air intake opening is located above the left front wheel, which lifts dust clouds while driving that are sucked into the engine. The snorkel creates a clean air intake point.
- The snorkel creates a single, high intake point for the engine, reducing the chance of water being sucked in when crossing a stream. A diesel engine is especially sensitive to hydro-static locking caused by water intake, which can result in engine loss.
- While driving, a Ram Air effect is created, generating positive air pressure, which helps the engine draw in air.
To connect the snorkel, it is necessary to drill the engine bay fender. For this, the template that came with the snorkel kit was adhered, and connection holes as well as the main hole were drilled using a hole saw. Masking tape was applied to the drilling points to prevent paint chipping. No paint was needed at the drilling points because the fender is made of aluminum. A rubber strip was placed around the main drilling to prevent injury from the snorkel due to shocks.
The airbox was completely sealed to create a single air intake point, starting from the snorkel. It was moved about 5 cm to the right to create space for connecting the snorkel. Additionally, the Air Flow mechanism was installed differently to compensate for the movement of the airbox and prevent bending of the air hose between them.
