Engine Temperature Gauge

 

The use of aluminum at the head of the engine in the Discovery makes it highly sensitive to excessive heat.  

In order to monitor overheating and protect the engine in time or reduce its load, I decided to install a temperature gauge that samples directly from the engine head, rather than rely on the original temperature gauge, which does not provide an accurate reading.

 

The selected controller is the XR20C model from Dixell, which was purchased from Termolene.

 

Connections
- The sensor connects to terminals 11 and 12.
- 12V power connects to terminals 7 and 8.

 

This model controller includes a buzzer that provides a vocal indication if the measured temperature exceeds a preset value. The installation location was chosen inside the coin compartment, which is built as a separate compartment with a removable panel on the front of the Discovery. The compartment was removed, sanded in the front, and cut at the back to fit the controller’s dimensions of 71X29 mm. An L-profile made of aluminum, 10X10 mm, was cut and sanded to fill the gap between the controller and the compartment. Afterward, the compartment was painted matte black for plastic and smoothed with fine sandpaper.

 

The sensor was installed in the front lifting hole of the engine and secured in place with heat-resistant graphite silicone. A two-wire cable was routed from it to the controller in the passenger compartment.
